The Festival of the New European Bauhaus will take place from 9 to 12 June 2022 as a hybrid event, in Brussels and beyond. The Fair will exhibit and showcase projects and prototypes reflecting and supporting the values of the New European Bauhaus; The Fest will feature a cultural programme with performances across Brussels plus satellite events around the EU; and The Forum will mix policy discussions and “innovative participatory formats” to debate topics including circularity, inclusion and quality of experience. Applications are open for the Low Carbon Design Institute’s free Summer Residency in from June 7 to July 1. The residency features online daily talks on topics such as ‘Creativity & Activism’, the ‘Product Life Cycle” and ‘Low Carbon Eating’. The talks are followed by drop-in discussion sessions each afternoon. Details here
Influential economist Kate Raworth has added an additional chapter to her landmark book Doughnut Economics. The new afterword reveals how her ideas have been put into action “in community groups and town councils, in classrooms and boardrooms and in homes” via the Doughnut Economics Action Lab. The 27th Biennial of Design, Ljubljana, Super Vernaculars – Design for a Regenerative Future, opens on May 26. Curated by Jane Withers, it promises to explore “a growing and ambitious movement that takes inspiration from vernacular architecture and design traditions to shape a more resilient and equitable future”. The exhibition will feature “imaginative responses to contemporary challenges such as water scarcity, waste and declining biodiversity”. More here
