As part of its #EndPlasticPollution campaign, Surfers Against Sewage and Plastic Free Penzance filled the town’s Jubilee Pool with the equivalent of the amount of plastic bottles thrown away every week in Penzance - over 75,000, which had been collected by volunteers. The English right-wing press has already mounted a concerted anti-electric car campaign - now it looks like Big Oil may be launching a similarly cynical effort. A new, not-so-subtle ad for Exxon Mobil’s Mobil1 oil seeks to equate petrol-driven cars with freedom, while using electricity, apparently, leads to a life of grim, stifling drudgery (with, irony of ironies, terrible weather).

Witness has just launched its ‘Video as Evidence Environmental Defense Guide’, which “seeks to assist communities that are affected by extractive industries, to collect high-quality, actionable video and photo documentation of violations committed by Big Mining, governments, and many other perpetrators”. The guide “contains information and good practices to help community-based documenters collect visual documentation of environmental human rights crimes and violations so that the documentation can be effectively used in advocacy and accountability processes,” Witness say.
