“Planted is the first contemporary design show reconnecting people and spaces with nature,” according to its organisers. Running as part of the London Design Festival, from September 23-26, Planted will be “based around the principles of biophilic design, [and] showcase leading sustainable design brands who place nature at their core, alongside nature-based installations, plant-based products and a forward-thinking talks programme”. Lahti in Finland is the European Green Capital of 2021, the award given by the European Commission to one city each year in recognition of its pioneering environmental actions, setting an example for other cities and developing innovative solutions to environmental challenges. Throughout 2012, Lahti has been running events and initiatives which promote and explore more sustainable city life - all of which are documented on its website here On Wednesday September 9, Lahti will host the ceremony announcing next year’s recipient of the award. A virtual conference dedicated to “ending animal exploitation” in design will take place in November. Vegan Interior Design Week will be a five-day online event, featuring more than 30 international speakers across panel discussions, a virtual showroom and networking sessions. In 2019 Massive Attack commissioned researchers at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research to explore opportunities for significantly reducing emissions associated with live music touring. The second phase of their work has developed a roadmap for the wider live music sector to support delivery of emissions reductions in line with the UN Paris Agreement. GSK has announced what it claims to be the world’s first carbon neutral toothbrush. “The new Dr.BEST GreenClean toothbrush is made from renewable cellulose and “tall oil”, a bioplastic derived from by-products from paper production that would otherwise go to waste, and is packaged using plastic free packaging and a recyclable renewable cellulose window,” reports Business Green. It has a 50 per cent reduced carbon footprint compared to the classic plastic Dr.BEST toothbrush, while GSK has partnered with ClimatePartner to offset the remaining footprint through an emissions reduction project in Madagascar.
