URGE members speaking at Design Council's major new conference
As part of its new focus to “galvanise and support the UK’s 1.69 million-strong design community to address the climate crisis”, the Design Council has announced Design for Planet, a two-day conference on November 9 and 10.
“Through Design for Planet, Design Council will rally designers to bring about the societal shifts needed to accelerate the government’s transition to net zero and ensure the planet will thrive for future generations,” the Design Council says.
The conference, which is part of the official COP26 fringe, will take place physically at the V&A Dundee but all sessions will also be live-streamed. It “will champion design as a powerful agent of change – featuring talks, practical sessions and design tools that will help all kinds of designers co-create the conditions needed to work more sustainably,” the organisers say.
Among the 100 experts invited to participate, URGE members will be to the fore. Michael Pawlyn will be participating in a panel on Designing with Nature while Sophie Thomas will be on the Circular Design panel while also running a virtual workshop with Ella Doran on Waste as a Design Flaw. Further virtual workshops will also feature John Grant and Federico Gaggio on Communication Design for Climate and Alexie Sommer and Patrick Burgoyne, with xtonnes, on Carbon Management for design businesses.
